Art is abuzz in Statesboro!
One of the best places to take in some art is the Averitt Art Center located downtown behind the courthouse. If you want to visit it digitally here is the url
http://www.averittcenterforthearts.org
The Averitt Art Center provides a Professional Exhibit Season in the Main Gallery, a Professional Performance Season in the Emma Kelly Theater, a Children's Art Gallery, Studios for rent, and the list goes on...
Of course, Georgia Southern's PAC (Performing Arts Center) provides tons of multi dimensional theatrical performances as well.
Georgia Southern's Betty Foy Art Center is a fabulous place to view fine art.
Art is also supported each year through the Kiwanis by hosting the Art Show at the Annual Kiwanis Club Fair.
The Statesboro Regional Library displays local artwork throughout the year.

Shhhhh.....Secrets of Statesboro
Okay....there are probably some things people can't believe are in Statesboro.
Did you know we have a winery? Yes...it is called Meinhardt Vineyard and it features varieties of muscadine wine. I just found out they are serving dinner there Thursdays through Sunday. To check out the menu I have provided the url http://www.meinhardtvineyards.com/
If muscadine wine isn't your flavor....another great Statesboro secret is the Grapevine at H's. Sounds fancy, doesn't it? Well it's really the Citgo station at the corner of 67 south and Harville Road before the fairgrounds. But they have hundreds of labels of wine and many home accessories as well as appetizers and garnishments available. Check it out!

Mill Creek Park and Splash in the Boro
Mill Creek Park is the largest recreational park in the southeast hosting 155 Acres of Parkland, 15 Lighted Baseball/Softball Fields, 7 Soccer/Football Fields, 2 Playgrounds, 1.25 Mile Walking Trail, complete with Exercise Stations! , 9 Picnic Pavilions, 8 Public Restrooms, and 1 Lake.
Just adjacent to Mill Creek is Splash in the Boro. This is the only waterpark in the area. The closest being Jeckyll Island. Splash features many fun attractions such as the flowrider (only one in Georgia). Additional activities at Splash include a spray ground for the little ones, mat racer, water slides, lazy river, play pool, leisure pool and therapy pool. Concessions are available. And the cool thing about Splash is that all of the pools are available year round as they are covered with a "dome" and heated!
Splash is also a great way for Bulloch County to generate revenue! People from surrounding counties love to come to Splash!

The Founding of Zaxby's
I was reminded not too long ago that Zaxby's was started here in Statesboro! A SHINING idea, I think!
Who knew that this little ramshackled trailer looking thing with a rigged deck would turn into a national chain? At the time, the restaurant was known as ZAX and it also served beer! Now why when they turned it into a chain they lost the idea of serving beer I will never know. Beer and wings and fingers just go together!
A lot of memories were made at the original ZAX. A lot of worldly thinking and problem solving went on there and whole lot of fun too!
Thank you ZAX!

Hi folks!
Here is my first post of a SHINING example of why Statesboro is so great....GSU!
GSU stands for Georgia Southern University. Georgia Southern hosts approximately 18,000 undergraduates and about 2,000 graduate students, And the number is growing each year! Georgia Southern has had a long history but at one time was known as Georgia Teacher's College. Georgia Southern still has an extremely large and established Education department.Currently Georgia Southern's claim to fame is the discovery of Camp Lawton, which was a civil war camp.
Georgia Southern also holds 6 National Football Championships in SoCon. Everyone knows you have to mention football when you live in the south!

A little bit about me....and a little bit about the 'Boro!
Hi there!
You're probably wondering why I am creating a blog about Statesboro, Georgia. Especially since I am not even from this town. Well here goes....
After growing up in Miami I always assumed I would forever be a "city-girl"! For years after I started Georgia Southern University, located in Statesboro, Georgia. I would complain how simple small towns were and how they couldn't hold a girl like me! Then I went home for a summer and along came Andrew! Oh it was special alright! A category 5 hurricane! Two weeks without electricity! Waiting in lines for hours to get gas to run the generator so that your grandmother could have one little AC unit going to cool her in a small room. Putting the gas in the generator around the clock! Ummmm....so not fun! National Guardsmen IDing you as you left your neighborhood. Crazy! I literally took a train out of town and really never looked back. Great for short visits but not to live there! No way!
Statesboro became my security! My no big hurricane refuge. And then to top it all off I met my husband! We fell in love instantly, married, started our family and deemed Statesboro our new home!
Over the years Statesboro has amazed me! It has really grown and even during these tough economic times Statesboro still shines!
I will be highlighting all of Statesboro's attributes through this blog and hope you enjoy reading about them!
